This is a reader’s glossary, not a system. Each entry is one or two sentences and a link to the place the word is actually earned. Where a term is still open, it says so.
Words for change, and what each one emphasizes
These are used deliberately. They are not synonyms.

Terms
Threshold. The point past which a system’s behavior changes rather than merely varies. Much of the corpus is about what happens at, and just after, that crossing. Tolerance-Modified Exactness, The Transition Zone Hypothesis
Transition zone. The maintained region between two regimes, formed by bidirectional exchange between a propagating perturbation and its surrounding medium, whose properties are neither those of the intact substrate nor those of the pathway. The standing claim is that the maintained boundary is part of the mechanism, not just the place the mechanism shows. Long Live the Transition Zone, The Transition Zone Hypothesis
Non-collapse. Computation, or description, that does not force a system into a single discrete state at every step. The contrast is with collapse-based architectures, which turn uncertainty into binaries and fields into points and hold only until scale exceeds their collapse thresholds. Tolerance, tolerance-modified exactness. A graded extension of classical homology in which exactness holds within a bounded drift rather than exactly. At zero tolerance it recovers ordinary homology; the framework yields one graded quantity, not two. Tolerance-Modified Exactness and the Drift Diagnostic
Drift diagnostic, τ*. The extinction tolerance: the smallest tolerance at which a given structural feature stops surviving drift. It is provably not a function of the ordinary barcode, which is the paper’s separation result. Tolerance-Modified Exactness
Regime. A pattern of behavior with its own effective description. No assumption is made that two regimes share variables, that either description contains the other, or that a natural translation exists between them. A proof can be valid while its export to another regime is unlicensed. Invariant Rules, Different Realizations
Footprint. The trace that access to one regime would have to leave in another for that access to count as evidence. The open question is whether such a footprint must exist, and what it would have to survive. The Footprint Question
Apparatus. Whatever an observer uses to couple to a system, instrument or formalism or habit of attention. The argument is not that an observer can escape every apparatus, but that different apparatuses can expose one another’s limits. The Toy and the Field, The Participating Boundary
Observer window. The subset of a larger process an observer can actually see. Hidden states are not discarded; their effects remain in the probabilities of the visible process, so different windows onto one process produce different effective worlds. What Lies Beneath Spacetime?
Admissibility. The set of transitions available to a system from its current state. In the debris work, admissibility is path-dependent: what was available but unrealized can change what is available next. Debris as Predictive Compression
Debris, residue. What an unrealized transition leaves behind. A transition that was available but not taken is not the same as one that was never available; the residue of the former is compressed, many-to-one, into consequences for future motion. Return bias. In the four-state toy model, the exact departure from the null probability of re-selecting a realized transition on first return: 99/2000, or 4.95%. A functional of realized paths alone. Debris as Predictive Compression
Read-Write system. A natural system that both carries an internal pattern and navigates a changing field, negotiating between the two. Writer systems impose pattern; Reader systems detect it; Read-Write systems do both, and their maintained transition zones are often where the negotiation lives. Writer, Reader, Read-Write
Formation environment. The conditions under which a thing forms, which write themselves into it. The ordering claim is that encoding scales inversely with buffering: crystals record their formation most directly, plants and fungi less, mammals least, because the womb is built to make formation environment not matter. Geometric opposition (⊗). An operator on discrete structures that measures coupling through opposition rather than alignment; the empirical claim is that structures couple through opposition across biological and physical systems. X (Un)factor. A checks-and-balances rule: no update may empty the set of ways the counter-account can be tested. Used to test opposing explanations without collapsing uncertainty into false certainty. X (Un)factor
Coherence. Persistence of relational structure through change. Never stability, low variance, or inactivity. The word is used sparingly in the 2026 work because it was overloaded in the earlier corpus. Precision Over Scale

Withdrawn, superseded, preserved record. Status labels on the site. Withdrawn work stays cited as withdrawn; superseded work points at its successor; a preserved record is an intuition kept intact because it later resolved into something provable. Repository Notice
